 First Grade Performance at Holiday Hoopla
Every day Burley students experience an award winning and unique curriculum specifically designed to educate the whole child - the musical education provided by the renowned Merit School of Music is an integral part of this experience. Each week, students explore the world of music through varying lenses. This music curriculum has an immensely positive impact on both the classroom environment and the mind of each Burley student. Students begin in their early years exploring the fundamentals of music. They build on that experience in either choir or band in their upper years and graduate from Burley with a robust foundation in music fundamentals and all of the benefits that come from musical study.
At Burley, our music program is about more than just music. Research from the National Association of Music Education has shown students of music are more emotionally developed, have higher self-esteem and are better at coping with anxiety. Musical education can greatly contribute to children’s intellectual development. Learning music promotes craftsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork in a different group outside of the classroom setting. Students are inspired to create high quality work. Music helps foster a positive attitude towards learning and curiosity. This provides another opportunity beyond sports and academics for students to be part of a larger group to accomplish and create together. Burley School’s long-standing partnership with the Merit School of Music brings active involvement in music education to its students. Faculty members hold advanced degrees, many from major conservatories and music schools from around the world. Merit brings a faculty of passionate and highly-skilled music educators committed to helping young people succeed in reaching their full musical and personal potential into every Burley student’s K-8 academic experience. The Merit Music program at Burley costs over $90,000 per year and is 100% supported by YOUR contributions to Friends of Burley.
